Harworth Church of England Academy

Our school is linked with The King's Village in Northern Ghana.

Only 1 in 20 adults in Northern Ghana can read and write. At our school we sponsor a child called Nashiratu and the money that we raise helps to fund her education. Nashiratu is 6 years old and she is one of triplets. She is in Class Basic 1 at The King's Village school. Nashiratu lives in the village of Wuba and she likes playing.

Every week in Collective Worship we think about Nashiratu, her family and The King's Village school in Ghana. We keep in contact with the school through photographs, letters and videos. Just before October half term Wise Owls wrote letters to pupils at the school. They have just received the responses and enjoyed finding out what each pupil's favourite subject is, what they like to do and who is in their family. Wise Owls also sent Nashiratu a card and gift for her.

In Collective Worship we have been learning a song that the children of The King's Village school sing which is called 'My God is Good'. Click on the video below to hear the song.

Fundraising

Our first fundraising event was a Rucksack Competition which involved designing a rucksack suitable for a pupil at The King's Village. Each child that entered the competition also had to say why it is important to have an education. We raised an amazing £67 for The King's Village and all the entries were fantastic. Our Chair of Governors chose the best design in each class and they each won a Ghana keyring. He also picked out the overall winner who won a rucksack that came all the way from Ghana. Well done to everybody that entered the competition. The designs were amazing.
